Rick and Morty the Top 15 Episodes that you should watch

2 years ago Entertainment, Series

After five seasons, Rick and Morty is now regarded as one of the best-animated sitcoms of all time. It’s hard to top the series’ winning blend of high-concept storytelling, absurd humour and emotionally raw characterization, even if fans are often left waiting for months – or even years – between new instalments.

Fortunately, the wait between new seasons isn’t as long as it used to be, and creators Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon are now promising an annual release schedule. True to their word, Season 6 kicked off on September 4, and we have the full episode guide for Rick and Morty Season 6 for all your streaming info needs.

To celebrate the new season, let’s take a look at our updated countdown of the best Rick and Morty episodes. Where do “Pickle Rick” and “Rixty Minutes” fall? Read on to find out.

Note: this article was originally published in July 2018 and was updated in September 2022 to include episodes from Seasons 4 and 5.

15. “Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort” (S5E8)

There were two major loose ends Rick and Morty fans wanted to see addressed in Season 5, and this episode delivered a very satisfying payoff to one of them. Over the course of the series, we’ve seen Rick’s BFF Birdperson undergo a horrific series of transformations, first being betrayed by his human lover Tammy and then dying and returning as the cybernetic Phoenixperson. At long last, Rick uses some much-needed alone time to pull Birdperson’s mangled body out of storage and attempt to resurrect his friend. The only problem is that Birdperson doesn’t necessarily want to come back.

The whirlwind journey through Birdperson’s fractured psyche makes for one of Season 5’s most memorable storyline. Fans are treated to some long-overdue flashbacks (of a sort) to the origins of this odd friendship and what led Rick to become the nihilistic, disaffected old kook he is today. And Rick being the kind of guy who never does anything unless it benefits him, the ultimate resolution to this reunion is fittingly bleak.

14. “The Ricklantis Mixup (S3E7)

This Season 3 episode is a case of defying expectations in the best way, Billed as an episode about Rick and Morty journeying to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, “The Ricklantis Mixup” wound up almost entirely ignoring the two in favor of a story set at the Citadel. Here we saw the plights of numerous other Rick and Mortys, not all of whom get to live a glamorous life of adventure and hedonism. The surprise ending paid off on a previous loose end in a terrific way, setting the stage for a major showdown in Season 5.

13. “One Crew Over the Crewcoo’s Morty” (S4E3)

Heist movies are fun, but sometimes the convoluted plots and nonstop barrage of twists and fakeouts can be a little much. Unless you’re talking about Rick and Morty spoofing heist movies, in which case, the more the merrier. This Season 4 gem boasts a hilariously labyrinthine plot that only grows more preposterous over the course of 20 minutes.

This episode introduces Rick’s creation Heist-o-Tron, a robot programmed to calculate the perfect heist, and his nemesis, Rand-o-Tron. Few episodes are so successful in taking a ridiculous premise and continually building upon it. “One Crew Over the Crewcoo’s Morty” also has the benefit of bringing back fan-favorite character Mr. Poopybutthole, as well as giving the Internet its most meme-worthy line since “I’m Pickle Rick!!!!”

12. “The Ricks Must Be Crazy” (S2E6)

Ever wonder how Rick powers his beat-up but amazingly versatile spaceship? This episode answered that question as it dragged Rick and Morty on a mind-bending quest through the microverse that fuels Rick’s battery. As Rick feuded with his microscopic rival Zeep Zanflorp (Stephen Colbert), the series mused on the futility of existence and the incredible sacrifices that make Rick’s dimension-hopping lifestyle possible. And while all of that was unfolding, this episode gave us a hilarious subplot where Rick’s ship worked to protect Summer at all costs.

11. “Rickmurai Jack” (S5E10)

If “Rickternal Friendshine of the Spotless Mort” gave fans the answers they craved regarding the fate of Birdperson, then the Season 5 finale is where the series finally resolved that all-important question – “What is Evil Morty really up to?”.

“Rickmurai Jack” opens with an amusing preamble where Rick’s crow obsession reaches its inevitable climax, complete with a Vampire Hunter D-style makeover and plenty of anime fight scenes. From there, Evil Morty steps back into the spotlight and reveals his true plans for the Citadel. What follows isn’t a high-stakes battle for the fate of the multiverse. That would be too predictable. Instead, viewers come to learn “Evil” Morty is motivated by nothing more or less than to reach a place truly free from Rick’s malign influence. Who needs a supervillain mastermind when Rick repeatedly proves to be his own worst enemy?

10. “Meeseeks and Destroy” (S1E5)

This was the first episode that proved supporting characters like Beth and Jerry could outshine Rick and Morty themselves, given the right circumstances. While Morty’s ill-fated attempt to pick an adventure is memorable (and traumatizing) enough on its own, the real highlight of this episode is Mr. Meeseeks, a do-gooder whose brief existence is devoted to helping others achieve their goals. Helping Beth find emotional fulfillment proves far easier than helping Jerry take a few strokes off his golf game. Nice going, Jerry!

9. “Mort Dinner Rick Andre” (S5E1)

“Riiiiiichard!!!”

While not all fans were thrilled with the weirder direction of Season 5, most would agree the season started off strong with the debut of Rick’s previously unmentioned nemesis, Mr. Nimbus. Easily among the show’s most hilarious one-off supporting characters, Mr. Nimbus has everything we could hope for in a lusty, preening Aquaman/Namor parody.

To its credit, though, this episode doesn’t wear out Mr. Nimbus’ welcome. That feud (and Rick’s misguided counterattack) mostly plays out in the background, emphasising Morty’s unwitting brush with beings from another dimension where time moves much more quickly. Throw in a goofy subplot about Beth and Jerry contemplating a threesome with the King of Atlantis, and you have all the makings of a terrific season premiere.

8. “The Vat of Acid Episode” (S4E8)

Based on the title and the opening scene, this episode leads you to believe it’s headed in one direction before veering wildly (and hilariously) off course. Morty’s frustration over not being able to take charge of his and Rick’s adventures winds up leading to the creation of a save point button. Morty gains the power to rewind time and undo his mistakes. Of course, it isn’t long before that power goes terribly wrong.

“The Vat of Acid Episode” is a true showcase for Rick and Morty’s ability to blend high-concept sci-fi fare with scathing humor and emotionally wrenching plot twists. If Morty thought his ill-fated game of Roy: A Life Well Lived was traumatic, he truly learned what heartbreak is in this episode.

7. “Pickle Rick” (S3E3)

Here’s the episode that launched a thousand memes. Rick embarked on his strangest journey to date when he transformed himself into a sentient pickle in order to weasel out of attending family therapy. A few dozen slain rats and one showdown with a killer named Jaguar later, even Rick was forced to admit that maybe he had gone a little overboard. The series doesn’t get more wacky or over-the-top than this.

6. “Rick Potion No. 9” (S1E6)

Like all new shows, Rick and Morty went through some growing pains in its early episodes. However, the series truly found its voice in “Rick Potion No. 9,” achieving that trademark balance of high-concept sci-fi, absurd humor and brutal nihilism the show has become known for. Morty’s efforts to make Jessica fall in love with him go horribly awry, resulting in a shocking ending where Rick and Morty are forced to abandon their own Cronenberg-infested dimension forever. Even two seasons later, the characters are still feeling the effects of that unexpectedly dramatic turn of events.

5. “The Wedding Squanchers” (S2E10)

Many of the best Rick and Morty episodes take a few sharp turns before the end, and “The Wedding Squanchers” is no exception. What starts as a seemingly lighthearted celebration of Birdperson and Tammy rapidly devolves into all-out chaos as the Galactic Federation sets its sights on Rick. With Earth under occupation and the Smith family struggling to adjust to life on their remote new alien home, Rick has no choice but to sacrifice himself in what is easily one of the most emotionally charged moments of the whole series. Quite a way to wrap up the season.

4. “Mortynight Run” (S2E2)

In “Mortynight Run,” Rick and Morty butt heads when Morty insists on protecting a rogue alien named Fart (guest star Jermaine Clement). Naturally, there are a few major twists and turns and emotional meltdowns along the way. But in many ways, it’s the little details that set this one apart, from Clements’ amazing David Bowie-inspired musical number to Morty’s horrific experience with the arcade game Roy: A Life Well lived. This episode also boasts what is possibly the best Jerry subplot ever, as Jerry meets dozens of his alter egos at a Jerry-only daycare.

3. “Rixty Minutes” (S1E8)

Only Rick and Morty could do an entire episode about the main characters watching TV and wind up with one of its best episodes ever. Here the Smiths are introduced to the wonders of Rick’s interdimensional cable box, opening up an entire multiverse of bad television. This episode delivers a nonstop stream of bizarre clips, introducing instant fan-favorite characters like Ants in my Eyes Johnson, Two Brothers and Gazorpazorpfield. But this episode also shows a surprising amount of depth, with Jerry and Beth struggling with the glimpses of their alternate lives and Morty consoling Summer by revealing the tragic events of “Rick Potion No. 9.”

2. “Auto Erotic Assimilation” (S2E3)

This episode boasts one of the cleverer Rick and Morty storylines to date, as Rick is reunited with his ex-lover Unity (guest star Christina Hendricks), a hive mind possessing the population of an entire world. As Rick and Unity’s billions of hosts descend into a hedonistic orgy of excess, it quickly becomes apparent why the two were such a bad match in the first place. The tragic ending of this episode is a soul-crushing experience, as a lovelorn Rick literally comes within inches of suicide. It’s another powerful reminder that beneath all the catchphrases and big ideas is a very lonely and unstable man.

1. “Total Rickall” (S2E4)

“Total Rickall” truly captures everything that makes Rick and Morty great. Its premise is ridiculously clever, with the Smith household invaded by an alien parasite that takes root in the hosts’ memories. It features a terrific slate of one-off side characters, from Hamurai to Sleepy Gary to Photography Raptor. And it quickly veers from amusement to crushing emotional drama as the Smiths feel the full impact of their memories being torn to shreds. But compared to Mr. Poopybutthole, they got off light.

Deadpool 3 Is Coming in 2024, Hugh Jackman Returns as Wolverine

2 years ago Box Office, Entertainment, Marvel (MCU)deadpool, Marvel

Deadpool will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe on September 6, 2024, and star Ryan Reynolds is teasing a long-awaited meeting with his old friend Wolverine.

In a surprise teaser posted on Ryan Reynold’s personal Twitter account, the actor is shown seated on a sofa telling fans he was “extremely sad” about missing D23 where there was no Deadpool 3 announcement.

Reynolds then shares a workout montage before talking about a potential story idea the writers had for Deadpool 3. He then asks Hugh Jackman if he wants to play Wolverine again, to which Jackman appears briefly and says “sure.”

Deadpool 3 Reveals Release Date - And Hugh Jackman's Wolverine Returnv wolverine

Click over to see our biggest burning questions about Deadpool 3 and Wolverine’s return.

Jackman last played Wolverine in 2017’s Logan directed by James Mangold. At the time, Jackman publicly stated Logan would be his last film as Wolverine. Even after Disney officially acquired the rights to the X-Men again, Jackman talked about his excitement for new actors to pick up the claws.

The idea that Jackman could reprise the role of Wolverine is deeply exciting. Jackman has played Wolverine across nine films, and his sendoff in Logan was as close to perfect as can be. But to see Jackman and Reynolds together at last (again) will be a second closure for fans.

Deadpool and Wolverine’s MCU Debut: Our 6 Biggest Burning Questions

2 years ago Box Office, Entertainment, Marvel (MCU)deadpool, Marvel, Wolverine

Ryan Reynolds just stunned the world, nay, the universe… NAY… the multiverse… with a surprise announcement that Deadpool 3 finally has a release date… and a Wolverine. That’s right, after years of teasing that he and Hugh Jackman could team up for the continued adventures of the Merc With a Mouth, Reynolds just dropped a video tease that ends with the once and future Logan actor agreeing to return as the famed X-Man in Deadpool 3. And not just that, but the movie finally has a release date now too: September 6, 2024.

But what does this mean not just for Deadpool and Wolverine, but also for the MCU itself? We’ve got a bunch of burning questions about this fourth-wall-breaking news, so let’s dive in…

Stories from the Comics We Want to See in Deadpool 3
Here are some stories from the comics we'd love to see in Deadpool 3!

But Isn’t Wolverine Dead?

Yes! And no! While the great James Mangold film Logan did indeed kill off Jackman’s version of the character, let’s not forget that that movie didn’t necessarily fit into the proper Fox X-Men movies timeline. Of course, those movies always had problems with continuity to begin with, but it’s entirely possible to just consider Logan the movie as featuring what we now would refer to as a Variant version of Wolverine – in this case an older, even gruffer take on Jackman’s famous mutant. And yes, a bloodier version too.

So even though he died, we could still be getting a totally different Variant on Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Maybe it’ll be a more comics-accurate version of Old Man Logan, or maybe it’ll be the Wolverine we know from most of the other X-Men movies. Or maybe it’ll just be a brand new spin on the character, like we saw with Patrick Stewart’s Professor X in Doctor Strange 2. That version of Xavier went the ’90s animated series route, so what if Deadpool 3 also pulls from our collective nostalgia and this is how we finally get Hugh Jackman in the yellow-and-blue Wolverine costume?

So Is the X-Men Movie Universe Fully Merging With the MCU?

All signs point to… we don’t know yet! But keep in mind that even the first two Deadpool movies never quite felt like they fully existed in the standard Fox X-Men world. Colossus looked and sounded way different for one thing, and some of the other X-Men characters didn’t really line up with those films… while some did. Hell, we even got what appeared to be a downed SHIELD helicarrier in the big battle at the end of Deadpool 1. That wouldn’t really fit in the standard Fox/X-Men movies.

Bottom line, none of Deadpool’s connections to the X-Men movies ever made much sense, but now’s the chance to tie it all together via… you guessed it, the multiverse! Phases 4, 5 and 6 of the MCU are collectively referred to as The Multiverse Saga, so the MCU is primed and ready for this kind of seemingly impossible crossover.

While Phase 4 narratively hasn’t done much to move things along, the one thing it has established is that Kevin Feige and co. can do literally whatever they want.

“

While Phase 4 narratively hasn’t done much to move things along, the one thing it has established is that Kevin Feige and co. can do literally whatever they want. There’s a multiverse worth of Variants and Dr. Strange is happy to kill off all your fan-cast heroes in one fell swoop, so there are any number of ways this could happen.

Where Does Deadpool 3 Fall in Phase 5 and 6?

A September 6, 2024, release date puts Deadpool 3 first up in Phase 6, followed closely by Fantastic Four in November of the same year. What could happen in Thunderbolts that closes out Phase 5 and sets in motion the long-awaited Fox/X-Men universe officially landing in the MCU?

Or is the answer to that question… “not much really”? In which case, could Deadpool be responsible for merging everything in the build-up to Secret Wars?

John Krasinski, who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for the shortest time onscreen as a Marvel superhero who can stretch really far, followed up Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool 3 announcement with what we assume is a joke tweet, asking, “Wait… is this our movie?” But then again, we also thought the Reynolds announcement itself was a joke at first, and, as previously noted, Deadpool 3 is coming right before FF, so maybe none of this is a joke and Reed Richards and the Fantastic Four will be teased in Deadpool 3 and we take the MCU very, very seriously here!

Besides, maybe this will explain how Professor X wound up in the Illuminati alongside Reed in Doctor Strange 2.

Are They Still Using the Deadpool/Wolverine Buddy Road Trip Idea?

Ryan Reynolds revealed in 2021 that before Disney bought Fox, the plan for Deadpool 3 was to make a road trip movie featuring Deadpool and Logan. He also noted that it would’ve been done “Rashomon style. For real,” which of course refers to the Akira Kurosawa classic about a story that is told from multiple, clashing points of view.

Of course, it always has made sense that these two characters should team up onscreen in some way, as they’re both survivors of the Weapon X program. And the humor of this set-up feels pretty obvious, with Jackman’s Wolverine playing straight-man to Reynolds’ Deadpool. Except, in a Rashomon road trip, there would be plenty of opportunity to also depict Logan in new and ridiculous ways. Which is to say… let’s hope this idea is still on the table.

Does This All Set Up Secret Wars?

We know that the MCU’s Multiverse Saga will culminate at the end of Phase 6 with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in May, 2025, and Avengers: Secret Wars in November, 2025. The modern Secret Wars comic saw the Multiverse destroyed and reform into one singular Battleworld populated by Variants from many different realities, so it seems like a safe bet that Marvel boss Kevin Feige and his team will pull out all the stops for that film, bringing in all manner of cameos and returning favorites for the culmination of this multiverse-spanning story.

A Robert Downey, Jr. return as a Variant Tony Stark almost seems inevitable, and you could also see other characters return like Natasha Romanoff, Steve Rogers, and more. And let’s not forget that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could play a part, meaning after decades of the characters being kept apart by two separate studios, we would finally witness Wolverine and Spidey share the screen together. But then there are the other worlds and characters floating around out there that would simply delight the fan-boys and -girls of the world if they showed up. Everyone from the Lou Ferrigno Hulk to the Wesley Snipes Blade is on the table, so bringing in Deadpool and Wolverine together is a surefire way to set up this dynamic in the months leading up to the Multiverse Saga’s big one-two punch finale. And don’t worry Logan movie fans, there’s no reason we can’t get a younger Wolverine and an older version in Secret Wars as well, side by side…

What Do Deadpool and Wolverine Do to a Potential Avengers Lineup?

If Deadpool and Wolverine are now running around the MCU, we can’t help but wonder what effect that will have on the Avengers. Can a team comprised of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes afford not to include these two immortal killing machines?

Let’s not forget that both Logan and Wade have been card-carrying members of the Avengers in the comics. Wolverine spent years dividing his time between the X-Men and Avengers. And when funding for the Avengers dried up in the aftermath of 2015’s Secret Wars, it was Deadpool who opened up his wallet and bankrolled a new version of the Uncanny Avengers.

Long story short, if either of these two characters are sticking around the MCU after Deadpool 3, we could very easily see them join the Avengers. What a ride that would be.

Chainsaw Man Anime Finally Gets Release Date

2 years ago Entertainment, SeriesChainsaw, Chainsaw Man, Man, Mappa

One of the most highly anticipated Chainsaw Man anime series is coming soon.

Chainsaw Man is based on the popular manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, in which Devils are brought into existence based on the collective fears of humankind.

The highly anticipated anime series finally has a release date, with episode one arriving on October 11.

Announced on its official Twitter account, the release date came alongside a new trailer for the series (below) and confirmation that it would run for 12 episodes in total. The first episode will also be available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

Chainsaw Man Opening Song Revealed, Ending Theme to Change Each Episode - Siliconera

Chainsaw Man – a beloved manga series about a teenage devil hunter who’s brought back from the dead with chainsaws for hands – is one of the most anticipated anime adaptations of this year. Its page on the online manga and anime database My Anime List already has more than 500,000 members and its release date announcement tweet hit 100,000 likes in just 26 minutes.

Details on the anime’s opening and closing themes were also released, with Kenshi Yonezu performing the opener and the credits featuring a different soundtrack in each episode, played by artists including Maximum the Hormone, Ano, People 1, and more.

Avatar Director Says People Who Watched It at Home ‘Really Haven’t Seen It’

James Cameron says you have to see Avatar in a theater.

Avatar director James Cameron says the film has to be seen on the big screen, going so far as to say those who have only watched it at home “really haven’t seen it.”

During an interview with The New York Times, the 68-year-old filmmaker explained why watching Avatar at home just isn’t the same as in theatres.

“Young film fans never had the opportunity to see it in a movie theatre,” he explained, regarding the recent re-release of Avatar in theatres. “Even though they think they may have seen the film, they really haven’t

It is heading back to theatres worldwide in just a couple of days with a remastered release debuting on September 23, 2022. However, Cameron admits that it isn’t quite the same as it was in 2009… at least when it comes to how we view films.

“We’ve got a turn of the world toward easy access in the home,” he said. “And that has to do a lot with the rise of streaming in general, and the pandemic, where we literally had to risk our lives to go to the movie theatre.”

It’s true that the box office suffered immensely due to the pandemic, where online streamers prospered. But now, Cameron feels the “resurgence of the theatre experience” is already happening.

“People are craving that,” said Cameron. “It’s slowly building back. Partly it’s been because of a dearth of top titles that people would want to see in a theatre. But Avatar is the poster child for that. This is the type of film that you have to see in a theater.”

Avatar was originally released in 2009 and swiftly became the highest-grossing film of all time, with a staggering $2.8 billion box office haul. It was well received by the critics, too.

It also happens to be the perfect time for a re-release ahead of Avatar: The Way of Water – the upcoming sequel that debuts in December. It’s been twelve years since the original Avatar first hit theatres, and audiences might need a bit of a reminder before they see the sequel. What better way than to head back to the cinema and watch it on the big screen?

Rockstar Confirms GTA 6 Leak, Says Development Will Not Be Affected

Around 90 videos of the game appeared online on September 18.

Grand Theft Auto developer Rockstar Games has confirmed that the GTA 6 leaks that appeared online yesterday, September 18, are real, but development will not be affected as a result.

Rockstar published a statement to Twitter (below), saying the “early development footage” was illegally taken from its systems following a network intrusion and its disappointed to have its new game shared for the first time this way.

A Message from Rockstar Games pic.twitter.com/T4Wztu8RW8

— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 19, 2022

“We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorised third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto,” the statement reads.

Rockstar Confirms GTA 6 Leak and Says Development Won't Be Affected ⋆ Somag News

“We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations.

“We will update everyone again soon and, of course, will properly introduce you to this next game when it is ready. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support through this situation.”

Close to 100 different videos of the game were shared online anonymously showing robberies, gunplay, fully voiced conversations, and more. The footage all but confirms the rumours that GTA 6 will feature male and female protagonists and a Vice City setting.

While Rockstar has promised more information soon, there’s no telling as to when the developer will have a full reveal for the game as, just like its eventual launch, GTA 6 will only be shown when its ready. It was only announced this year, of course, but as it’s been almost a decade since GTA 5 was released, fans are eager for more.
