COLOMBO (News 1st): 1111 COVID-19 infections reported were in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (27), making it the highest number of coronavirus cases recorded in a single day.
1089 of these infections were from the Peliyagoda Cluster, 07 from the Prison Cluster and 15 cases were those who returned from overseas and tested positive for COVID-19.
COLOMBO (News 1st): It is the responsibility of every citizen to ensure that you do NOT contract the virus, emphasized Army Commander General Shavendra Silva, the Head of the National Operation Centre on Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) on Tuesday (Apr. 27).
Whilst emphasizing that COVID-19 patients reported at present are already in critical condition at the time of detection compared to the previous COVID-19 waves, the Army Commander urged the people to take precautions.
“When comparing the condition of COVID-19 infected cases detected at present to that of those from the previous waves of the outbreak, the medical condition at the point of detection is quite critical. Therefore, it is the responsibility of every citizen to avoid contracting the virus,” General Shavendra Silva stressed.
He sternly advised that every one MUST wear a face mask when leaving home.

02. The deceased is a 63 year old male resident in Kandy. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments in National Hospital Kandy and transferred to the Base Hospital Theldeniya where he died on 22.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as sever COVID Pneumonia in the background of chronic liver cell disease and cystic bronchiectasis.
03. The deceased is a 71 year old male resident in Peliyagoda. He died on 20.04.2021 while undergoing treatments in District Hospital Iththapana. The cause of death is Covid Pneumonia.

He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments in Base Hospital Embilipitiya and transferred to the Teaching Hospital Colombo North where he died on 18.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Acute Kidney Injury and Covid Pneumonia with sepsis.
02. The deceased is an 80 year old male resident in Ja-Ela. He died on 19.04.2021 while undergoing treatments in Colombo North Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as COVID Pneumonia, Coronary heart syndrome and Acute Kidney Injury.
03. The deceased is a 57 year old male resident in Kelaniya. He died on 20.04.2021 while undergoing treatments in Colombo North Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid Pneumonia, Septic shock and Acute Kidney injury.
04. The deceased is a 66 year old male resident in Rathnapura. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments in Teaching Hospital Rathnapura and transferred to the Base hospital Homagama where he died on 19.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Covid pneumonia, Diabetes and Dyslipidaemia.
05. The deceased is a 39 year old male resident in Gamapaha. He was diagnosed as infected with Covid 19 virus while undergoing treatments in a private hospital in Colombo and transferred to the IDH Hospital where he died on 20.04.2021. The cause of death is mentioned as Septic Shock with Covid pneumonia.
COLOMBO (News 1st): The commemoration ceremony of the 2019 April 21st Attacks will be held at the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade on Wednesday morning (Apr. 21), which was among the targetted locations of the attack.
Religious leaders are scheduled to attend the ceremony presided over by the Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith.
The Spokesperson for the Archdiocese of Colombo, Dr. Camillus Fernando urged all Sri Lankans to observe two minutes of silence at 8.45 am today in memory of victims of the attack.
Moreover, all Catholic Schools in the country will remain closed today as the Catholic Church has decided to conduct multiple services to remember the lives lost on that tragic Sunday.
A special security plan will be in place on Wednesday (Apr. 21) surrounding Catholic Churches, Cathedrals, and Shrines in line with the special masses, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana told News 1st.
