
COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Transport Board said that following the lifting for travel restrictions, approximately 3,500 buses have been deployed for transportation services within provinces, as Inter-Province Travel Restrictions remain in place.
SLTB Chairman Kingsley Ranawaka said a considerable number of Inter-Province buses have also been deployed to operate within provinces, however, limited buses will cross provinces to transport health workers and essential workers.
“If a government body makes a request, we are ready to deploy the buses and staff members,” he added.
Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara told a briefing that Sri Lanka Railways postponed its decision to resume operations by two weeks, even though restrictions were lifted on 1st October.
He said Sri Lanka Railways is prepared to resume operations at short notice.
“During the COVID period, Sri Lanka Railways will operate as per fixed timelines and according to this plan, we will operate 130 train runs per day for office staff,” he added.
“We will also introduce Semi-Express Trains to minimize congestion. Long-Distance Trains will also be shifted to Semi-Express upon reaching a certain train station en route to Colombo,” he added.
