
The number of deaths reported due to adverse weather conditions in the country had increased to 21 in five districts by yesterday, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
They said the deaths were reported from Kurunegala (2), Kegalla (5), Kalutara (3), Puttalam (2), Colombo (1), Ratnapura (3), Galle (1) and Gampaha (4) districts.
According to the report released this morning, 272,132 people from 43,890 families have been affected in ten districts, according to the DMC.
They said people in Gampaha, Ratnapura, Colombo, Puttalam, Kalutara, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalla, Kandy, Kurunegala and Galle districts have been affected.
Moreover, five people were injured and two people are missing, the DMC said.
According to the report, 21 houses were damaged completely while 1,095 houses suffered partial damages, they said.
2,689 people from 694 families have been sent to 60 safe locations, they added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
